CPTED Curriculum
State-of-the-art, effective crime prevention techniques
What is CPTED?
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a proactive crime fighting technique focusing on tactical design and the effective use of the built environment. When applied, it reduces crime and the fear of crime, which improves and enhances the quality of life of residents and raises the comfort level of normal users.
The core principles of CPTED: Natural Surveillance, Natural Access Control, Territorial Reinforcement, Activity Support, Maintenance, in conjunction with other social, environmental and community-based strategies will create a safe environment to work, live and play.
Ideally, incorporate these principles during construction planning, but cost-effective CPTED applications can be offered post-construction.
